How to Clean Your Phone During COVID
Your phone is disgusting! Research shows its much dirtier than many of us think. Charles Gerba, a biologist at the University of Arizona states, “Cellphones carry 10 times more bacteria than most toilet seats.”
We touch so many germ-ridden objects throughout the day including doorknobs, TV remotes, computer keyboards, kitchen utensils, and money. All of these germs can collect on your phone unless you are taking the time to wash your hands and phone often.
So how can you clean your phone? A statement released by Apple recommends, “Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the exterior surfaces of your iPhone. Don’t use bleach. Avoid getting moisture in any openings, and don’t submerge your iPhone in any cleaning agents.”
We know that it’s not always possible to fully disinfect your phone. But even a little soap and water on a paper towel can go a long way towards keeping your phone cleaner and stopping the spread of germs.
It is also important to be aware of what you are touching in between using your phone. For example, be conscious of your phone usage in the bathroom, while you’re cooking, and before/after touching your face. We all need to do our part during the COVID-19 pandemic to flatten the curve and slow down the spread of this disease. You can make a step towards this by following the CDCs recommendations on handwashing, social distancing, and, of course, disinfecting items including your phone.
